Feeling overwhelmed is very common and it is a bigger issue than you may realize. It can threaten your happiness, relationships, and your business success.

It isn't always about taking on more than you can handle, sometimes the amount of information out there can trigger the feeling of overwhelm, especially when you are just starting your business.

When you are feeling this way on a regular basis, your body can have a physical reaction with elevated stress levels, which more often than not, results in you being short-tempered, forgetful, and bring up feelings of inadequacy. Not to mention, if you are anything like me, you may even forget to eat as you focus on sifting through everything, trying to accomplish it all. This can eventually lead to other health issues, such as anxiety or depression and other physical issues if you keep putting yourself through the same paces without a break.

So, to help you overcome those hurdles, here are 7 tips to remember when you are feeling overwhelmed.

Your emotions are natural: Feelings of overwhelm are often a sign from your body that it is time to slow down and scale back. You can also control your feelings, so addressing this feeling and replacing it with better ones is possible.

It isn't the end of the world: This is part of life. The good news is that you can stop the feelings of overwhelm by recognizing it for what it is and taking proactive steps to prevent the cycle from happening.

Now is a good time for a brain dump: Overwhelm leaves our minds cluttered. By writing down all of the things, you need to do or feel, you are alleviating some of the mental energy you have had to expend keeping it all in.

Yes, writing it down - put pen to paper.

Take action instead of wallowing in your thoughts: Action breeds more movement and will propel you out of your feelings of overwhelm. Additionally, new opportunities will crop up to help you chip away at what is making you feel this way.

Avoiding digital stimulation is the better choice: Getting lost in social media will only leave you feeling worse when you realize how much time you've lost. Notifications can leave you in a constant state of panic. Remember that it is okay to turn off notifications and focus on what is important.

Stepping outside is a good thing: You do not have to be tied to your desk and laser-focused on what needs doing, all the time. Give your body the break it deserves to help you reset and recharge. Even if it is for 5 minutes, breathe in the fresh air, soak up some rays and calm your mind.

Remember, you have been here before: I am willing to bed that this isn't the first time you have felt this way. I promise, it won't last but you have the power to control it and shorten the timeframe by being proactive.

It is easy to feel overwhelmed when you are first starting your new business. There is a LOT to do, much of it you've never done before or requires steps you didn't even know existed. You have a family, a job, pets, and the list of responsibilities and obligations goes on to add to your feelings of overwhelm.

You are not alone. The next time you start to feel overwhelmed, grab your journal and write down what it is that is making you feel this way. If you do this on a regular basis, upon reading your journal, you will start to notice patterns - which will help you take action to feel that way again.

Feelings of overwhelm don't have to stop you from following your dreams or even being productive. Remember that this happens to us all, and now, you know how to take action to overcome it.
