Pull up your cute pink desk chair and let’s chat. It’s radical honesty time, friend. Tell me: Why did you start your business? No, honestly. Could you tell me why did you pour time, energy, and money into becoming your own boss? Was it because somebody else (even a well-meaning business coach) suggested it? Or because it seemed ‘easy enough’? A quick way to make cash while pursuing your “real dream”? Or was it your truest longing that drove you to do it? I’m going to take a bold guess and say it was definitely not the last one.
But if you relate to any of the above, you’re not alone. Many business owners did the same thing. It makes sense. When we first launch our businesses, mentors, colleagues, and “the industry” tell us to think about other people—not our own purpose—first. We’re asked questions like:
👉🏼 “What problems can you solve for others?
👉🏼 “What skills do people praise you for?”
👉🏼 “What abilities do you have that others are willing to pay for?”
Don’t get me wrong: We’re all in business to help others—and it’s fantastic to think about how you can serve others with your business. But if you chose the path of least resistance or maximized a natural-born skill you don’t really love, I’ve got some not-so-good news: Over time, running a business that doesn’t ignite your passion will drain you, your bank account, and your spirit right into the ground.
You’ll burn out or get sick. What was working will unexpectedly stop—the money, clients, or clout will dry up. Eventually, you will feel so unmotivated and so over it all you won’t be able to do anything but watch Friends reruns for three months straight. (Not to be dramatic, but the consequences can be dire. To your health, your finances, your family.) But I don’t have to tell you all that, do I? If you’re here, you already know you must change to love your business and life once more. What you might not know is just how to go about shifting your current reality and stepping into your true calling in a tangible, practical, non-airy-fairy way. The good news is the fact that you’re here proves you’re ready to make a change.
Some business owners find it hard to accept that their current venture isn’t what they truly love, especially if they’ve had success. You DESERVE to make money doing what you truly love—not just something that pays the bills!
And if you have read this far, you’re just shy from living a life more aligned, with more flow, ease, and joy than you ever thought possible. (Not to mention, more money, more passion, and a profound sense that you are doing something meaningful with your one precious life!)
So, if you’re ready to ditch the self-doubt and safety nets and (finally) get into alignment with what your soul came here to do, I’m ready to help.
